We are doing a field trip to Marshall Elementary School Gym on Oct 27th to do our Annual Seerah Competition. This year’s theme is “Seerah Olympics”. We will have fun games for all age groups as well as competition between countries and teachers/parents and students. All students are required to prepare for this event by studying the materials for their grade levels. We have 4 subjects to study. Older grades are responsible from all subjects. See the flyer below to see which subjects your grade level is responsible from. See the study materials below.
Alhamdulillah we had a great registration day on Sunday, Aug 25th. While parents were doing the registrations, students had a great time with their friends and enjoyed their ice creams and cookies. Please see some pictures below from the day.
If you missed the registration day, we will have a late registration day on Sunday, Sep 8t from 10am to 10:45am. However, it is essential that you do the online registration by Friday evening (Sep 6th) so that we can process them by Sunday. You can also make the payment online. Please see the details on our parents page.
First day of school is Sunday, Sep 8th. All students are expected to be in the class by 10:55am. Doors will close at 11am. Students are dismissed at 2pm after the Dhur prayers.
In the 2019-2020 school year, we are introducing a few changes. Below is the summary.
Muslim 360 program
For the 2019-20 school year, we are excited to introduce a pilot program named Muslim 360. The name implies our objective to develop the all-around student who is currently provided the ritualistic teachings and memorization aspects of Islamic education but also shifting focus to the inner character development. We have developed a new monthly Muslim 360 class that will be integrated with the Islamic Studies period. Our goal is a more interactive, engaging session where students can learn and develop these character development skills.
The initiative started last year when an article by ISPU (Institute for Social Policy and Understanding) released a research article titled “Weekend Islamic Schools: Are They Preparing Children for Life Ahead.” The emphasis of the article is the fact that the development of good character should be the central goal of Islamic education. A person’s strong internal moral character will reflect in their outward actions enabling to make decisions and engage with their surroundings in a manner pleasing to Allah (Swt). The article goes on to expose this essential element of teaching is missing in many Islamic weekend schools. As we evaluated our school, we felt a responsibility to improve our delivery of this type of training.
New School App
We are introducing a dedicated MAP Sunday School App that works on both iOS and Android devices. This app is a gateway for all the information parents and students need. Simply type the following address in the browser of your phone or scan the QR code below.
You can also watch the tutorial on how to setup and use the app from our parents page The app is password protected so that only our community can access it. Please enter MAP's wifi password when you launch the app for the first time.
To improve our registration process and reduce wait times, this year we are transitioning to a new registration process where we will implement a two-phase registration process. Both phases are mandatory for all parents.
In the first phase, all parents are asked to register online following the instructions on our parents page. They can also and make their payments using Mohid online payment system as described on the parents page. Please complete this phase by August 22nd.
In the second phase, we will do our regular onsite registrations on Sunday, August 25th, 2019 at 11am-1pm. In the second phase, you will confirm your child's grade level, purchase books, sign-up for volunteer hours, and make payments if you haven't already. There is also a social event during registrations where you can meet the teachers, school staff, and other parents and students while enjoying snacks and beverages. If you cannot attend the session on August 25th for a valid reason, you can attend the late registrations session on Sunday, Sep 8th at 10am-10:45am.
Tuition Increase: For the 2019-20 School year, please note our need to increase the school tuition fee by $20 per semester. We take the safety and security of our students very seriously therefore will continue to utilize the services of Armada Global to provide a professionally trained armed security patrol onsite every Sunday and at all Sunday School related activities. This tuition increase will help us cover only part of the financial needs of this service. We will still depend on communities generous donations to cover rest of the cost. Please note this is our first tuition increase since the inception of MAP Sunday School and will continue to cover the costs of school office supplies, weekly school lunches, classroom modifications, external school activities, graduation ceremony, etc.
2019-2020 school year will start on Sep 8th, 2019. Registrations will be on Sunday, August 25th @11am-1pm. Whole calendar for the school year can be seen on our main web page. We'll be introducing a slew of changes this year to make our school more efficient and more welcoming to both parents and students. Announcements will come in early August. In the mean time, please mark your calendars for the registration day and first day of school.
