Dear Parents,
In the 2019-2020 school year, we are introducing a few changes. Below is the summary.
Muslim 360 program
For the 2019-20 school year, we are excited to introduce a pilot program named Muslim 360. The name implies our objective to develop the all-around student who is currently provided the ritualistic teachings and memorization aspects of Islamic education but also shifting focus to the inner character development. We have developed a new monthly Muslim 360 class that will be integrated with the Islamic Studies period. Our goal is a more interactive, engaging session where students can learn and develop these character development skills.
The initiative started last year when an article by ISPU (Institute for Social Policy and Understanding) released a research article titled “Weekend Islamic Schools: Are They Preparing Children for Life Ahead.” The emphasis of the article is the fact that the development of good character should be the central goal of Islamic education. A person’s strong internal moral character will reflect in their outward actions enabling to make decisions and engage with their surroundings in a manner pleasing to Allah (Swt). The article goes on to expose this essential element of teaching is missing in many Islamic weekend schools. As we evaluated our school, we felt a responsibility to improve our delivery of this type of training.
